I booked a meeting by accident

I booked 6 meetings from 1 prospect with 1 email 🥶

This is one of the happiest coincidences that has happened to me 🩵

In today’s entry, I will walk you through how I sent ONE email, that got me 10 leads, 6 meetings, from ONE prospect.

Seriously.

Chapter 1: Background

It was just another day, grinding and scrolling on Linkedin every 5 minutes.

I noticed one of my connections liked this guy’s post, complaining about sales people.

It got me to laugh, and then I had a lightbulb moment.

âťť

Maybe I should reach out to this guy and change his mind about sales people with my super cool, unique cold message.

For some context, here’s the post he made on Linkedin:

I left a comment on the post and then started to craft the email, here’s what I ended up with 👇🏻

Chapter 2: The email

Okay first thing first, the subject line.

“This is Not A template”

Clearly this is highly tailored to him because of his post, I knew this was going to get an open at least.

Next, the first line.

“As someone who takes pride in sending personalized emails, your most recent post on Linkedin really got me laughing. “

Setting the tone and doubling down on the fact that I am coming from Linkedin right after reading his post.

“I got a chance to dig into Blue14's website and as someone who works with founders every day, I really liked that you guys highlight the fact that you aren't just a fancy watch for these start-ups, you're the entire outfit. “

Some might consider this overkill, but this serves the same purpose as the first line, showing him more proof that I did my homework and that this is NOT a template.

“With that said, my client, Arch Web Design, has helped over 100 companies improve their website look + conversion rate (the average conversion rate is 1.1%, whereas their clients get an average of 3.7%), and I'm curious to see if they can do the same thing WITH you guys. “

Since this approach was purely based on personalization, I didn’t have any clear pains to solve, so I was just taking a shot in the dark here, hoping that my client’s offer would match something him and his team are looking for.

PS: I don’t advise you to do this, but sometimes you have to follow your gut, and my gut told me that this guy has such negative feelings towards old, lazy sales tactic, that best case scenario I book a meeting with him, worst case scenario I get to show him a different side of this industry and we can stay connected!

So to me, it was a WIN- WIN.

Okay now in regards to end of that email…

“PS: My first thought when I saw your picture in the about section was "The three musketeers", so I couldn't fight the urge to put this edit together”

Look guys, one thing about me, is I will never apologize for being a silly goose. It’s who I am, and in that moment, I genuinely couldn’t stop thinking that the picture this prospect had on their website with the other two co-founders, made them look like the three musketeers.

So I thought to myself, F**k it, it won’t take me more than 5 minutes to photoshop this into “reality”.

Again, I don’t advise this to most of you, it goes against all the guidelines and the rules, but like I’ve said before and I will continue to say

âťť

Sometimes, rules are meant to be broken

Chapter 3: The response

Boy, this was one of the best responses I have ever gotten.

I couldn’t believe it.

A: I got my client a meeting

B: I got myself a meeting

C: I got myself potentially 10 clients???!?!?!

D: 54 email opens!?!?!

HELLO!???

MOM GET THE CAMERA!!!

I ended up booking meetings with four of his companies for my own agency, and two other meetings for my client.

Chapter 4: The lessons

  • Personalization WORKS, you just need to put in the effort and take the time researching your prospects.

  • SPEED is almost just as important as timing. Once I saw the Linkedin post, it was GAME ON.

  • It’s never been easier to stand out. Even though I put in effort in this message, it wasn’t an “insane” amount of effort, yet look at the response it got me. Most (sales) people are lazy, as long as you show-up and put in just a little bit of work, you’re bound to outshine.
