My Degen friends helped me land a meeting

My Degen friends helped me land a meeting đŸ„¶

^ ^

I can just feel it.

This is about to be my favorite email I write.

This happened earlier this week actually, so this is FRESH OFF the hot press as your cringy 50 year old social media vp likes to say! 😃

Step in ladies and gents, as I tell you the story of how I booked a meeting for my client, using my degenerate friends.

Chapter 1: The Backstory đŸ„¶

I spent my adult life in Toronto, Canada. A lot of my friends went to a university outside of Toronto, in a town called “Waterloo”.

You might have heard of it before, it’s where all the engineer wizards are birthed.

Now the thing about Waterloo, is that
 it’s boring af.

There isn’t much to do there.

One of my best friends invited me to a Halloween party, and I remember thinking to myself

❝

I rather chew my own shoe

But, I got guilted into going and it was the BES
.

It was boring
.

However, one thing I constantly heard ( keep reading guys I promise this is relevant) was this bar named “phil’s”

Everyone wanted to go there, so I asked what was so special about it.

Everyone tried to give a reason, but they all ended up admitting why they really liked it:

It had the cheapest drinks in town, and there is nothing broke university students like more than cheap alcohol.

That piece of information right there, for whatever reason, stuck with me.

I guess I thought it was hilarious that in a town filled with engineers and nothing to do, there is ONE bar that everyone loves despite it looking and smelling like shit, just because it had cheap drinks.

That piece of information, 8 years later, will prove to be extremely valuable.

Chapter 2: The message

As I was doing my digging about the prospect, I saw that he graduated from Waterloo.

It also mentioned that he graduated with honors.

So my first thought was

Damn, he graduated with honors. He must have dodged every invite to go to phil’s

And just like that, I decided to use that piece of information to my advantage, because why not?

People buy from people, and I thought this would be something that is super relateable and might even get him to laugh.

The response?

Chapter 3: The Response

Bam. Meeting secured.

Takeaways

  • Give things enough time and they will age well.

  • Personalization DOES work.

  • Go to the bar your friends invite you to, life is too short.

  • People buy from people.

PS: If you didn’t see my Linkedin post, I decided I will be sending out these emails just once a week. I am way too busy with client work and I need to prioritize that for now until I can hire and onboard my current contractors so I can free up more of my time.

If you want to work with me by the way don’t hesitate to reach out!
